This week on the Forgotten Coast hasn't been the greatest in terms of fishing. With rain and wind all week there hasn't been any days that one could get out on the water. Finally Friday the skies started to clear and the wind began to lay down. My friend Kim was on her way over and all we both thought about was getting out on the water. But Saturday morning we awoke again to the sound of thunder and rain falling. As the day wore on the radar began to show a little break in the action and we decided to head on out. The first stop was Picalean Hole and the backside of St. Vincents Island, the tide was begin to fall and we worked both sides of the bar but the only thing we had to show for our efforts were a couple of Sailcats. I decided to run up into Big Bayou and work some of the small oyster bars as we followed out with the falling tide. The fist bar produced a nice 28 inch red.

This was the first of 6 reds that day. The day produce a smorgasbord of fish. Trout, reds, flounder, grunts and lady fish. As we were about half way out Kim was begining to get bored with the action and asked if we could move on to Dry Bar. As we prepared to move I noticed some bait activity near the last two bars. I asked to delay our departure untill we checked those out. The last stop produced a nice 20 inch trout for Kim.

It had been a couple of days since I have been on the water, tides not right wind from the wrong direction etc.etc. So late one evening I decided to venture out and see if the school of reds I had been on were where I thought they should be. SO as the sun set and the tide was falling I was working a flat on St Joe Bay when I came upon this "little gator". I cast a 5 1/2 " DOA jerk bait toward a sand hole in the grass. As the bait settled I felt a very light tap that I mistook as grass. I began to notice my line began to move off to the side I gave a quick tug on my bait. That's when my evening immediately began to amp up. The Power Pro Line I use began to screen off the reel and I saw nothing but large swirls out in front of me.

I was able to get the upper hand in what seemed like an eternity but it was only a few minutes. She weighed in at 10.25 lbs.

I have often felt that St Joe Bay held some really big trout. Now I know for sure.
